METALLICA's TRUJILLO: We Don't Think About How Many Records We Can Sell'

METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo has told the Australian Associated Press that he sees the group's current Australian tour as a welcome break.

"We've just done a huge arenas tour in Japan and Europe," he said.

"Next we are going to take that to the US (17 stadiums in March),but in between, we get to come to Australia in the summer and get in a festival tour.

"It's definitely a holiday.

"The cool thing about this tour for (guitarist) Kirk (Hammett) and myself, is that for us it's not only about music, but also about the ocean."

Between gigs, Trujillo, 39, believes getting in a surf every chance he gets is a great way of seeing the country.

"Not only do we play these huge stadiums with 40,000 people, but we also capture the vibe of the local surfing community, and I really like that," he said.

"You would think that with the stature of the band there would be a lot of ego, but there isn't," he said.

"We don't think about how many millions of records we can sell right now — it's just about doing the best we can do and going out and having fun."
